The objective of the new CrushLok wheel is to reduce buoyancy and drag while keeping the front end lower in the pit. By meeting these objectives, the front end will not wheelie as much allowing more power to be delivered to the tires. This is done without the need for adding large amounts of weight to the tires and frame. The narrow profile of the entire assembly reduces resistance and drag in the mud and water which increases speed throughout the race.
Because the body of the tire is squeezed to 1 ½” on a very narrow beadlock wheel, all of these objectives are met without the weight of a tire full of water. Made of ¼”steel plate with grade 8, gold zinc plated hardware; each wheel weighs around 20 lbs. That is approximately 10 lbs more than a typical wheel. The extra weight is also beneficial in keeping front wheels on the bottom of the pit. Air pressure can be run according to tire manufacturers specs or the rider’s preference. Regardless of how little air pressure is run in the tire, you will never spin the wheel inside a tire.
